The logotype is an abstract interpretation of the record label’s name — More Than Human. The left side of the logo face represents a human dreaming of the right side which is a robot.
Each release uses the same black cardboard with white hot foiled typography and a debossed rectangle from front to back. The high gloss sticker shows the artwork and the track list on the front of the sleeve and possible details on the back. This solution makes the sleeves both affordable and unique.
The label is a passion project between two British friends that aims to treat electronic music with the same respect that the Criterion Collection treats film or Penguin Classics treats literature, but without the big budget. The challenge was to make a coherent, premium product from quality materials at minimal cost.
More Than Human’s “otherworldly sounds” are released on vinyl only and produced in limited pressings of 300. They are tactile objects designed to celebrate the medium as well as the music. To address its budget constraints a modular solution to its branding and packaging was essential to save on costs.
The More Than Human logo-mark appears abstract at first glance, but closer inspection reveals an enigmatic character; half human, half robot. This level of subtle detail is present throughout the label’s physical assets, with white foil type printed on uncoated, black substrate to create a premium feel. Sleeves were printed with the same design template with a blank debossed window to house a glossy decal bearing the artwork and particulars of each release.
